Tarot Poetry
by Michael Gerald Sheehan

How These Poems Were Written

I entered the spiritual school of Tarot through the door of the Fool, giving away my possessions and living for ten years with no visible means of support. With no attachments, plans or responsibilities I was free to follow my inner guidance in the moment.

This inner guidance led me into direct experiences of the energies of every card in the deck. When left unfettered, the individual energy field will unerringly flow through the sea of humanity to the people and events that are most conducive to its flowering.

As with most writers, I continually drew from my own experiences to create my art. After ten years I did a reading for myself that said I would see my spiritual lessons knitted together as a whole in a few hours. A few hours later, while reviewing one of my poems, they all fell into place. I saw that I had unknowingly written a poem for each of the major arcana.

A Living Tradition

By immersing myself in the energies of the tarot and writing about my contemporary adventures, I have created a new transmission of the ancient wisdom. These poems have become songs, and these songs can initiate the willing into a deeper understanding of themselves and the ancient mysteries.

A Tarot Tutorial

Accompanying each poem is a picture of the card it embodies, the lesson of the card and a keyword associated with it. Together they offer an opportunity to triangulate on the nonverbal essence of each archetypal energy represented in the major arcana.

A Stream

The valley spirit never dies;
It is the woman, primal mother.
Her gateway is the root of heaven and earth.
It is like a veil barely seen.
Use it; it will never fail.

- Lao Tsu
