Towers Falling

A stranger on the corner said to me
Before he walked away
How many time he'd held love in his hands
And let it slip away.
His voice was so familiar
But his face I couldn't see
He hid behind a textbook
On the relevance of Greek philosophy.
I can see the towers falling everyday.
Each time the water rises it carries me away.

The leaders of the country went to meet
The leaders of the church.
I dreamt I was a parrot in a cage
Kibitzing from my perch.
They offered me some peanuts
Just to see if I'd keep quiet -
Afraid if I kept squawking
All the parrots in the world would start a riot.
I can see the towers falling everyday.
Each time the water rises it carries me away.

A charming neo-pagan wanted me
To join his merry band.
He loved and honored women, so he said,
And offered me his hand -
But when he tried to teach us
His divine reality
I couldn't keep pretending
All the groupies in his band were truly free.
I can see the towers falling everyday.
Each time the water rises it carries me away.

XVI - The Tower

The walls we build to protect ourselves can become our prisons. The mental blocks, rigid ideas and habitual patterns that provide us with security can inhibit new growth. When we are unable to move beyond our own self-limiting defenses, we draw to us someone or something to help break us out of stagnation. The lesson of the Tower is to realize that what destroys our security liberates our desires.
